Innovation and Business

Through collaborative efforts and unique approaches, The Water Connection (TWC)
drives innovative solutions addressing current and future water challenges.
We bring together resources from education, government and the private sector
for a multi-sector approach to projects and challenges.

TWC is proud to host the TAP-IN program sponsored by the Colorado Water Conservation Board, Colorado State University, Denver Water, and other partners! The mission of this program is to engage innovators and entrepreneurs in facilitating solutions to complex environmental problems by connecting end users with start-up businesses and cutting edge practices and technologies. TWC’s participation in an early “pitch event” in this program has evolved into leading the continuation of TAP-IN events in 2020.

In 2021, TAP-IN will be focusing on two main programs: Trout Tank Sustainability and a reverse pitch.

Trout Tank Sustainability:
The Small Business Development Center hosts this business accelerator program, and entrepreneurs and start-ups that were focused on water and sustainability related issues were invited to apply. Participants in this program learned the skills to pitch their ideas to potential partners and investors who can help them take their businesses to the next level.

There were 18 entities in the first ever cohort of Trout Tank Sustainability, with 5 businesses making it to the final pitch presentation. Those businesses were: OZ Frontdoor, simplyKLEAN, Boss Defrost, Transform Energy, and ROXBOX.  We are pleased to announce that the winner of the $5,000 prize was Transform Energy! This startup offers a procedure to convert invasive and waste biomass in “green coal”. Green coal mimics nature’s balanced carbon cycle, is an economical/environmental friendly alternative to traditional coal, and fills the gap left by solar and wind power.
